Re: EOS Rebel X
The 60D would be great, so long as you do get the kit lens too, not body alone. I like the 60D better than the T3i because it is larger (easier to hang onto and more buttons for me to play with). More important, the 60D has better auto focus performance. But the new T4i AF edges out the 60D. Normally the 60D price would be higher than a Rebel like the T4i, but the T4i was just released, and the low supply high demand market is keeping the T4i price high. Refurbished 60D cameras can easily be found priced under the T4i. I got my refurbish 50D (prior model to the 60D) through Canon Online (Canon Direct Store).

Re: EOS Rebel X
so without going crazy and assuming money wasnt as much of a factor you would get the t4i over the 60d?

Re: EOS Rebel X
Yes, the T4i is Canon's latest effort, the 60D is about due for replacement at this point. But the refurb deals on the 60D would be tempting (I'm a hopeless tightwad).

Re: EOS Rebel X
lol we all want the best...isnt a pentaprism better though as far as picture quality? also it looks like the shutter speed is faster on the 60d would that make it better for action shots?

Re: EOS Rebel X
No, the pentaprism makes absolutely NO difference in image quality. The pentaprism viewfinder is supposed to be brighter than the pentamirror in the Rebels. I have had both types of viewfinders and I found the difference to be slight at best. On full frame models (such as 5D###) the viewfinder may be a whole lot better. But the wild claims found on some forums about how much better a pentaprism is are just gross exaggeration.
There are very few subjects than need a shutter speed faster than 1/1000 sec. The paramount factor for action shots is auto focus speed, not shutter speed. The 60D AF is better than the T3i, but the new AF for the T4i edges out the 60D.

Re: EOS Rebel X
Yup, we've all been there. At this price level the differences between the various Canon models are fewer than the differences between the various Nikons. So in many cases, for a Canon shopper, you end up splitting hairs. The good news that results from this is that you can't go very wrong with any of these Canons. Be sure the person who will be using the camera at least sees the various models at the store, that might tip the selection.
