Nikon D5000 Review Discussion
On the surface, the arrival of the D5000 was only a matter of time. According to figures released from Nikon, sales of the entry-level D40, D40X, and D60 cameras account for roughly 80 percent of all Nikon DSLR sales. It's no wonder that Nikon was so eager to take the new high resolution sensor and video mode from their mid-grade D90 and put it into a lower-priced entry-level DSLR ... the new Nikon D5000.

Re: Nikon D5000 Review
The D5000 looks great. But right now a D60/kit lens combination is about $550, or $300 less than the D5000. Unless Nikon drops the price considerably, it's unlikely that someone who's interested in an entry level DSLR is going to spring for the D5000 over the D60, Canon XS or Pentax K2000.If the D5000 was $100 cheaper I'd have an easier time accepting it as a replacement for the D60.My Gear:
Panasonic FZ28
Canon Elph 110 HS
Canon A720IS (retired)

Re: Nikon D5000 Review
I also have to look at it from where the original MSRP was for the D60 when it first launched. I have no doubt that the D5000 will "eventually" drop $100, $200, even $300+ in price ... but that might be 12 or more months from now. I think the starting MSRP should have been "at least" $100 lower on the D5000 ... but I'm also sure Nikon was concerned about cannibalizing sales of the D90.

Re: Nikon D5000 Review
a little Better ISO performance compared to T1i and T2i in my opinion but not that much different play a major role.
Nikon D5000/50mm f1.8 Nikkor
Canon PowerShot SX120 IS
Sanyo Eneloop 2000mAh

Re: Nikon D5000 Review
Agree, mostly personal preference. Or a particular lens (or set of lenses) can tip the choice here. The other thing to consider is the upward path. T1i will lead to a EOS 50D or 7D. D5000 will lead to a D300S. More differences to consider.

Re: Nikon D5000 Review Discussion
Just a newbie, but adding something about the video.
I bought this camera a few weeks ago and have been telling everyone under the sun to buy it cheap as they start the Nikon D3100 push.
1 thing one person said to me was "yeah but they dont do video". Everyone thinks Canon for video which is stupid.
Anyway I did a video test the next day to show off what it can do:
