3DMedia Brings the Third Dimension to 2D Photos

The drawback to 3D display technology is that the vast majority of content is not in 3D. This is a problem 3DMedia Corporation looks to solve with their ViewFusion technology, which allows users to create 3D photos with their existing cameras for viewing on a 3D-enabled device.

3DComposer will be the first piece of software 3DMedia will release featuring ViewFusion technology. Users will be able to take both 2D and 3D images and create 3D content through a minimal user interface. Digital photographers simply take two photos side by side, upload the photos to a PC, and 3DComposer creates a 3D image from them, retaining the original images in their 2D state.

The software will be available via 3DMedia for Windows users to download from the 3DMedia site this January, with a Mac version coming the second quarter of 2010. It is free to try for 30 days, $99 to fully license.

3DMedia plans to license their ViewFusion technology for other products, including HDTVs, digital photo frames, cell phones, and digital cameras.
