Rugged Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 announced, ready for action
Panasonic unveils their second tough camera today, the Lumix DMC-TS2. As a follow-up to the Lumix TS1, the TS2 features 720p HD video recording in AVCHD Lite and is waterproof up to 33 feet, shockproof to 6.6 feet, and freezeproof to 14 degrees Fahrenheit.
The Lumix TS2 will house a 14.1 megapixel sensor in a ruggedized, boldly colored body. Thanks to a thicker design, the camera's LCD should be able to withstand increasing pressure as the TS2 reaches its maximum depth of 33 feet.
A folding 28mm wide angle lens is contained entirely within the camera body. The 4.6x optical zoom lens is supported with Power OIS optical image stabilization. On the back panel is a 2.7 inch, 230k dot LCD with automatically adjusting brightness levels. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery included with the TS2 is rated to a CIPA-compliant 360 images.
Panasonic has equipped the tough TS2 with their latest Venus Engine HD II. It features the same Intelligent Resolution technology that they've also introduced in the Lumix ZR3, ZS5, and ZS7 today. The Intelligent Resolution function is designed to preserve details that are often lost when digital zoom is used.
