Canon EOS Rebel T2i borrows from 7D, T1i feature set Discussion
Canon announces today the arrival of a new digital Rebel - the Canon EOS Rebel T2i. The Rebel XSi drops out of their entry-level line to make way for the new flagship T2i. It boosts the feature set of the T1i with a sensor nearly identical to the almost-pro Canon EOS 7D. They introduce the T2i with a price starting under $1000.

Re: Canon EOS Rebel T2i borrows from 7D, T1i feature set
I think this is a shot across the bow for other camera manufacturers - that's a pretty strong feature set for $800. I know we talk about the megapixel myth and how we've moved past it, but - an 18MP sensor and 1080p video? Pretty sexy, Canon.

Re: Canon EOS Rebel T2i borrows from 7D, T1i feature set
The Nikon D5000 and Pentax K-X are very good DSLR's but they can't compete with the T2i. I expect we'll see something from at least Nikon before too long.

Panasonic FZ28
Canon Elph 110 HS
Canon A720IS (retired)

Agreed, Andy - I don't think Nikon will sit on this for long. I was just discussing it with a coworker; I'd love to see Pentax respond but they really only seem to respond to themselves and not to competitors.

Re: Canon EOS Rebel T2i borrows from 7D, T1i feature set
Not entirely certain that I agree that Pentax Kx doesn't stack up to T2i. Not trying to be a fanboy, but without any effort I notice several mixed categories for better/worse for each camera.
11 point Af on Kx vs 9 point, 4.7FPS Kx vs only 3.7 on T2i, etc... And the T2i is several hundred dollars more than Kx at that. Clearly the sensor is much bigger at 18mp vs 'only' 12 on Kx, though have to wait for reviews to see if it's a good sensor, and clearly video is much more advanced on T2i than most any DSLR at it's price point.
So I'd say it looks like more of a mixed bag of better and worse than Kx, especially given the $800 body only price tag. Last I saw Kx was under $500 on the street for the body only pricing. Perhaps much better for videographer oriented, but mixed bag for still shooters.

Re: Canon EOS Rebel T2i borrows from 7D, T1i feature set
Just two questions:
How much was the price tag of XSi when introduced to market? How do the prices decrease over time?

Re: Canon EOS Rebel T2i borrows from 7D, T1i feature set
Currently in the USA market online shops are showing the XS /w 18-55 as low as $500 and XS body-only at $380. Deals on refurbs knock about 20% off those prices.
I'm giving current XS prices because my guess is that future closeout deals on the XSi model will not go any lower than those.
