Default Panasonic tour takes Lumix G2 on the road Discussion

Panasonic is currently traveling to major U.S. cities with its "Touch the Future Tour," an event that gives consumers hands-on time with new products unveiled at CES and PMA. We swung by the tour's Boston stop at Copley Place to get a hands-on look at Panasonic's latest digital cameras, including the Lumix G2.

Jamison, question #1 -- any idea when we will be able to purchase the G2? I've called Panasonic, read their press release, and can't seem to find a reliable answer anywhere on pricing or a release date.

Question #2, when do you think you may do a full scale review? I'm headed across the pond next month and want to upgrade my current digital camera (Canon Powershot S3IS), and am looking for some recommendations. The latest Powershots don't seem to have the best reviews on image quality. I'm liking the potential option of the G11.... but this Lumix G2 seems really pretty special. I love the idea of interchangable lenses without the bulk of a full blown SLR. I'm past my days of carrying around a big camera bag...

    Help me Mr Jamison?? !! : )

Have you considered the Panasonic Lumix FZ35? It has excellent image quality, a long zoom lens and is reasonably priced.

I like the FZ35, wish it had a hot shoe though. I really like the price point (as I'm afraid the G2 will have substantial sticker shock).

I'm also comparing to the Canon Powershot SX20.

The G2 looks to be a beast on features, image quality, and flexibility... but for a lot more... just wish I could get one in my hands to look at or see a deep review/comparison.

Thanks Andy for your post here...

While not nearly as gee-whiz as the Panny, the Oly E-450 is very light, uses tried-and-true Oly lenses. Of course the E-620 puts a lot of icing on the cake, but not as petite as the E-450.

That's a great question. Panasonic's policy has always been to announce the product first and the pricing and availability second, typically within a month of release. They first announced the camera in early March, so I expect we'll see it soon, and we'll hopefully have a review unit soon after.
