Re: DCR Workshop: Shooting HD video with a compact camera Discussion
interesting. I* never knew that a digital camera (even a DSLR) can compete with a camcorder for video quality. So camera shopping is more interesting from now on

One true advantage of camcorders are the internal hard drives that they use so lots of space to record with, though.Nikon D5000/50mm f1.8 Nikkor

The article contains very useful information. I wasn't aware of Windows Movie Maker. It certainly is much more useful than the limited video tools that come with a camera's photo editing software.

Re: DCR Workshop: Shooting HD video with a compact camera Discussion
one of the problems using a camera to record video is that the ones that i have tried focus when you start the video and then it is fixed from then on, so if move closer or farther away from your subject the video will go out of focus , not a problem you have with a dedicated camcorder.

Re: DCR Workshop: Shooting HD video with a compact camera Discussion
The lack of an autofocus is one of the main drawbacks to shooting video with a compact or DSLR, but Panasonic's Micro Four Thirds cameras do have it. Also, most professional videographers rely exclusively on manual focus and manual exposure when shooting. They seemingly have much more confidence in themselves then they do their cameras.
