Cool Re: Corel Releases PaintShop Photo Pro X3 Ultimate Discussion

Corel's older Suite was my main graphic tool set for many years. Certainly got the job done, for less than Photoshop. But Corel's prices have been climbing, and there is their problem. You can get a KPT photo filter plugin for the freebie GIMP. Dunno exactly how that version compares to this new PaintShop Pro. For a while I used Serif's PhotoPlus, which is a near identical clone to the image editor for PaintShop Pro (PhotoPlus does not include any vector drawing program). Generally it's easier to find big discounts on PhotoPlus than for PaintShop Pro. Now I'm using Adobe's Elements. Which is not quite so advanced as PaintShop Pro, but easily covers my amateur needs. Elements includes a very nice Organizer / album builder. Much better than the organizer bundled with PhotoPlus. Haven't seen this new PaintShop Pro organizer, dunno how it compares to the one in Elements. Again, my experience is that it's easier to find deals on Elements than on PaintShop Pro.

In my view the biggest plus for PaintShop Pro is that it includes a vector drawing program for general graphics. As that is not included with Elements I ended up paying $40 for an indie drawing program. If you want vector drawing, a good case can be made for PaintShop Pro. Otherwise, shop around.
