Pentax K-r Review Discussion
The new Pentax K-r DSLR reminds me in some important ways of my first 35mm SLR, an old, basic Mamiya. The K-r is an interesting camera - it has a full complement of flashy features, but at heart the K-r is a fairly straightforward (and for today), fairly basic DSLR.

Re: Pentax K-r Review Discussion
The camera is defintely capable of taking good pictures. A plus is the 720P video that looked quite good given the low lighting that it was taken under.
I did not find any info as to the type of sound it records(mono or stereo) or the codec used for the audio capture. I looked at Pentax's site and they said nothing about this. When a manufacuturer fails to disclose this type of data it leaves a sore feeling in me.
A freind had the K1000 and it was indeed a good 35mm film camera. There was only one problem he had with his and it may have been a problem in all manufactured as well. There was no switch to turn off the light meter. He found that the battery drained very fast but whether it drained fast due to a defect in his unit or this occurred in others manufactured I do not know.

Re: Pentax K-r Review Discussion
The graphic depiction of the 4-way button assignments on the LCD is cool. Izz anybody else doing that?
Very cool that you are now measuring LCD contrast ratio and brightness. Can we find a table of these measurements somewhere?

Re: Pentax K-r Review Discussion
Who has done this review? It is totally inaccurate, the Shutter: Type: Electronically controlled, vertical run, focal plane shutter Shutter speed: 1/6000 to 30 sec, bulb availableHTML Code:The shutter on Pentax's K-r is electronic, but very traditional sounding - with a loud mechanical shutter "clunk" when you press the shutter button. Some folks will enjoy this link to the past, while others may regard it as an affectation. I like the traditional shutter sound even if it is an affectation, but it isn't great for street or candid photography because your subject may hear the shutter and react - something of a moot point with a fire engine red camera body.
