The Canon Powershot SD1000 is the current flagship model of the Canon's SD/Digital ELPH lineup. Seven megapixel resolution, a 2.5 inch LCD, and a 3x optical zoom get crammed into a metal, retro-styled body that is only 0.76 inches thick. Read on for our full review!

Re: Canon Powershot SD1000 Digital Camera Full Review
Is this better than the SD800 series, the SD900 series cameras?

Re: Canon Powershot SD1000 Digital Camera Full Review
It's not necessarily better, just a different segment of the market. The SD750 and SD1000 essentially replace the SD630 and SD600.
The SD800 IS and newly announced SD850 IS have optical image stabilization while the SD1000 does not.
The SD900 is slightly older and kind of one-off sort of camera, offering a nice titanium look, etc.
The SD1000 includes the newer DIGIC III processor, while the SD900 does not.Best Regards,
Ben

Re: Canon Powershot SD1000 Digital Camera Full Review
So should I wait until the SD850 comes out? Is the SD800 series the "Digital Elph" line, like the SD1000 camera?

Re: Canon Powershot SD1000 Digital Camera Full Review
The SD850 IS will be a lot higher priced than the SD1000 - MSRP is $399. If your budget is as you mention in the Buying Suggestions forum, then waiting probably won't do you much good.
Any Canon SD* model is a "Digital Elph".Best Regards,
Ben

Re: Canon Powershot SD1000 Digital Camera Full Review
See, I thought that the "Elph" label meant the camera was an ultracompact. Is that not so? (I think it was like that back when Advantix film was being used for the Elph series)

Re: Canon Powershot SD1000 Digital Camera Full Review
Yes, the Elph label means it's in Canons ultra-compact line. All of the model numbers of the Digital ELPH cameras (at least the current digital ones) start with "SD". Canon calls them Powershot SD1000, Powershot SD800 IS, Powershot SD700 IS (and so on), but they're also referred to as Digital Elphs.

Yet there are major weight and size variances within the SD line. Odd.

Re: Canon Powershot SD1000 Digital Camera Full Review
Before the latest SD750 and SD1000, I've never really considered the SD line to be really slim. They seemed more like bricks. They were still pocketable, but not *really* that slim. The SD750 and SD1000 seem slimmer than their predecessors. Also, Canon uses different body materials for many of the cameras in that line (as well as screen sizes - the SD750 has a 3 inch LCD).
