    Default Olympus E-PM1 Review Discussion

Along with two new stable mates (E-P3, E-PL3) the Olympus PEN E-PM1 (PM1) is the latest addition to the Olympus mirrorless fleet, targeting "first-time interchangeable lens digital camera users." The PM1 is the smallest, lightest, and most portable PEN camera to date - and has been dubbed the "PEN mini" by Olympus.

The 800 ISO sample looks softer than I would have expected from a 4/3 camera. So went to the review of the Olympus E-PL2, another Olympus 4/3 camera, and compared its sample image at 800 ISO. To me, the image produced by the E-PL2 seems sharper and more colorful.

Good catch Andy. It's as if the top pic was taken wide open while the bottom one was f/5.6 plus sharpening!

As you guys know, the ISO shots are done in the studio and the reviewers work off of those. I see what you're both looking at and I'm voting a bit of camera shake rather than hardware or settings to account for it.

The 1600 shot with the PM1 looks a little better (I'm looking at the full frame shot enlarged) which is why I think camera shake may be involved. Also looked at the E-PL3 and it looks a little better at 800 (with the same sensor, lens processor). Even on a tripod or with camera support a punched shutter or slight bump during capture can fuzz up a shot a little.
