Re: CameraBag 2 Photo Software for Mac and Windows Released for Under $25 Discussion
I've downloaded CameraBag 2 for a trial. To it's credit it can take in RAW files. My CR2 (Canon) flavor RAW files loaded into CameraBag 2 appear nearly identical to how they appear in Canon's own editor, Digital Photo Professional. I would score that as a plus, both ACDSee 14 and Elements 9 cannot match DPP for being faithful to camera settings. But, the editing tools in CB2 fall well short of Elements. No brushes, no magic lasso, no discrete layers. CB2 refers to its filters as layers, but not the same thing as Elements. You cannot even "zoom" the view of the image in CB2, instead it always auto sizes to the window size. Thus no hope of pixel peeping. As CB2 lacks brushes, it's misleading to call it a touch-up application. Image wide adjustments, and lots of effects, yes. But forget smudging out that mole on Aunt Emma's cheek. Elements has little to fear from CB2.
