Default Samsung NX1000 First Look Review Discussion

I called Samsung's latest ILC, or interchangeable lens camera, effort a 'Swiss Army knife' on the front page.  And it is - it packs a number of features into a pretty petite frame - and with the dazzlingly white finish, it looks good at the same time. It's also available in black, and I think that in terms of future resale value, the black might be a better option; over time, the white will likely show scuffs and wear more readily than the black version will.

The NX1000, like my NX100, does NOT have in body image stabilization (IBS), rather optical image stabilization (OIS) built in to certain lenses. The 20-50 mm kit lens does not have OIS, but an 18-55 mm lens does have OIS. The 16mm, 20mm, and 30mm pancake lenses also do not have OIS.

Dennis, you are absolutely right. I think I may have been thinking of the NX210, which looks very similar. I've edited the story to correct the error.

    Thanks!

    J.R.,

I wish Samsung would use IBS, but sadly (to me) they only offer OIS through their lenses, like the Panasonic m4/3 series. All of the NX cameras lack the IBS capability. I still appreciate my NX100 for what it is, but wish it had IBS, since I mostly use the pancake lenses (16mm and 30mm). I do have the 50-200mm (iFn) zoom with OIS, but it's rather large compared to my pancake lenses. The 20-50mm is a good short zoom, but makes the camera too large for my tastes, and also does not have OIS.
