Samsung S760 and S860 Digital Cameras Announced
Samsung has announced two new digital cameras in their entry level S line. The Samsung S760 and S860 are your typical entry level digital cameras. The S760 is a 7.2 megapixel camera, and the S860 is an 8.1 megapixel camera, but they're identical otherwise. They both have 3x optical zooms and feature sets. Both cameras will be available in January 2008 with the S760 available at an MSRP of $169 and the S860 at $179.

Both camera also feature a Digital Image Stabilization mode and Face Detection auto focus/auto exposure. A Self Portrait mode uses the face detection system and won't let you take a shot until a face is centered in the frame.

A brief description will pop-up on the screen as you navigate through the menu system. For scene modes, you can choose from: Night, Portrait, Children, Landscape, Close-Up, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Fireworks, Beach & Snow, and Self Portrait.
An "E" button (for Effects) on the back of the camera, provides access to several creative features. You can resize and rotate images. Sharpness, contrast, and saturation can be adjusted. A red-eye fix and several capture color options can also be chosen.
The S860 and S760 can capture movies at 640x480 and 320x240 at 30fps. Both cameras are powered by AA batteries.

That self portrait mode sounds like a neat idea. I wonder how many people will actually get use out of it.

Yeah, that seems to always be the question. Excellent material for the marketing folks, but probably rarely used in real life. I certainly wouldn't choose a camera based on something like that.
