Canon Pixma MP970 All-In-One Printer Review Discussion
As an urbanite living in a tiny apartment, space to house all of the requisite equipment for my digital darkroom is at a premium. Given these constraints, I've always been drawn to the idea of combining my printer and scanner into a single multifunction device, but I haven't been willing to make the compromises in both printer and scanner performance that these all-in-one devices tend to make. Thankfully, the times have changed, and the Canon Pixma MP970 Photo All-In-One Printer is proof of just how far both consumer-level printing and scanning technology have come - with the printing and scanning power to keep even photo enthusiasts happy while successfully pulling double duty as a general home/home office print and copy solution.

Nice printer all-in-one review! The ink for that thing must be expensive!
HP ink is so overpriced...

Re: Canon Pixma MP970 All-In-One Printer Review
A fair question on the ink prices, given that this is often part of the purchasing decision. The Canon's about middle of the pack in this regard (cheaper than the large-format Epson R1900 that I use for benchmarking the images): a multi-pack containing the four primary (CMYK) ink tanks used for general color printing runs about $30 (or around $8 a tank). Individual tanks for the photo-specific cyan and magenta are about $10 apiece. Pigment black is another $26. Total cost to replace all seven tanks, then, is around $75 - pricey, but not as bad as some higher-end dedicated photo printers.
