Dropping the prices of entry-level SLRs seems to be the theme this week, with deals on two smokin’ hot cameras.
Circuit City has the Olympus E-420 body with a 14-42mm IS lens, Olympus 40-150mm digital telephoto zoom lens, and the Evolt starter kit for $599.97. Best Buy has the retail value of the entire package as $979.97 saving you $380.
Circuit City is also STILL giving away free Epson printers with select camera purchases, enhancing the package.
OUR TAKE: "The Olympus E-420 is touted as the "world's smallest digital SLR" and there is no doubt the camera is compact and light... make no mistake about it, the E-420 didn't cut out features or performance on its way to being small." (DCR Review, 4/4/08)
Best Buy has the Sony A200 body with 18-70mm zoom lens and a 75-300mm zoom lens for $599.98. Best Buy has the retail value of the entire package at $779.98 saving you $180.
Don't need the extra lens? Best Buy has the A200 with only the 18-70mm zoom lens for $499.99.
OUR TAKE: "If you're looking to move into a DSLR and aren't wedded to any particular brand, there's a lot to like in the simplest Sony." (DCR Review, 6/13/08)
In the wake of the Fourth, the brick-and-mortars are continuing the good deals.
Every brand seems to have one camera on sale this week; here are five of the top digital camera deals this week.
Circuit City has the Nikon Coolpix P80 for $359.99 after a $40 instant rebate. It was the cheapest price I found for the P80 among the Big Box stores this week, although I did find it for $329 at PCNation.com. Features include: 10.1 megapixels, 18x optical zoom, face detection, and a 2.7" LCD screen.
OUR TAKE: "Camera size and weight are excellent - the P80 will fit (carefully) into a pants pocket, then come out and give the user a 27 to 486mm focal range...the decent shutter response, good image quality and ability to customize camera settings to impact image quality tip the scales in the P80's favor in my book." (DCR Review, 6/29/08)
YOUR TAKE: "An Excellent SuperZoom...Little CA and PF. Very Good Battery Life... Very Good IQ." (submitted by John)
Circuit City has the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 for $319.99. It's not the best price I found, but you can pick it up today and you get a free Sandisk 2GB SD card with purchase. Features include: 9.1 megapixels, 10x optical zoom, 3.0" LCD screen, optical image stabilizer, face detection, and Shoot movies in HD.
OUR TAKE: "The TZ5 adds a (usually) great new screen, takes a step toward addressing the TZ3's high-ISO concerns, can shoot HD video that rivals many camcorders, and...retain[s] basically everything that made the TZ3 so good - good speed, good optics, and a compact, stylish package." (DCR Review, 5/5/08)
YOUR TAKE: "I was the previous owner of a TZ3 and the TZ5 is everything the TZ3 wanted to be. The LCD is gorgeous, face detection is cool, the overall image quality is a notch up in quality." (submitted by Ricky)
Circuit City has the Fujifilm FinePix S700 for $169.99 after a $60 price drop. Also, get a free Sandisk 2GB SD card with your purchase. Features include: 7.1 megapixels, 10x optical zoom, 2.5" LCD screen, image stabilization, and up to ISO 1600.
YOUR TAKE: "A decent performer. A perfect camera for casual and amateur users." (submitted by Rinki)
Best Buy has Panasonic Lumix FS3 for $179.99. I did find it cheaper online (Beach Camera: $146) but it's available today and comes with a free 1GB memory card. Features include: 8.1-megapixels, 3x optical precision-crafted Leica DC VARIO-ELMARIT wide-angle lens, a 2.5" Intelligent LCD backlit, and intelligent ISO control.
OUR TAKE: "...the FS3 is an excellent combination of style and value, offering the look and features of a more expensive camera." (DCR Review, 3/5/08)
Best Buy has the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W150 for $229.99 after a $20 price drop. Features include: 8.1-megapixel Super HAD CCD, 5x optical zoom, a 2.7" Clear Photo color LCD monitor and clear RAW Noise Reduction and ISO 3200 mode.
OUR TAKE: "...the Sony has fairly earned a strong, if not a completely resounding, recommendation on the basis of solid performance and high image quality... there's very little here to get in the way of consistently excellent photos." (DCR Review, 5/23/08)
