Epson P-6000, P-7000 offer mobile photo storage/viewing
If you're a working photographer who does lots of on-location shooting – or if you're just looking to add to your list of dream photo gadgets – Epson may be able to help with the recent launch of their P-6000 and P-7000 portable photo viewing/back-up solutions.
Designed with photo professionals and amateur enthusiasts in mind, the latest Epson P models allow shooters to back up photos to hard drive storage while traveling without the use of a laptop. The 80GB P-6000 and 160GB P-7000 feature built-in card readers for SD and CF memory types, and the devices are compatible with both JPEG and many RAW formats.
Epson's portable storage/viewing devices have always excelled at providing vivid image playback, and the newest models are no exception. A 4.0-inch 640x480 LCD display provides extremely accurate color reproduction on both models, handling 16.7 million colors (or roughly 94 percent of the Adobe RGB color gamut).
A high-speed USB 2.0 interface makes transferring files from the devices equally quick and easy.
Powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion cell, Epson claims an on-location battery life of up to three hours for the new P models. A "travel pack" that includes a 12-volt car adapter is also available with the P-7000, further extending the flagship model's range.
As always, the impressive specs of Epson's latest storage/viewer combos don't come cheap: expect to pay $599 for the P-6000 or $799 for the P-7000 when they become available for purchase next month.
