Canon ships 100 millionth PowerShot
Canon has reached a significant milestone this week with the shipment of its 100 millionth point-and-shoot digital camera.
Initially rolled out in 1996, the PowerShot line (known alternatively as the Digital ELPH, Digital IXUS, or IXY cameras, depending on model and market) has grown to a total of 106 new models in the last twelve years.

The first PowerShot model, the 600, featured an 832x608 pixel CCD sensor and 176 MB of photo storage capacity and cost nearly $1000.
Since the release of the PowerShot 600, Canon has expanded its compact camera line to cover a full range of point-and-shoots, from ultracompacts to ultrazooms.
Imaging Resource has the complete press release from Canon.
