Nikon has taken the wraps off their new professional level digital SLR, the Nikon D2xs.  An upgrade/follow up to their Nikon D2x, the D2xs shoots at 12.4 megapixels, can capture full resolution images a 5 frames per second, and will be available in late June for a body-only price of $4699.

Nikon D2xs Features

  • Capable of 5 frames per second capture at full resolution and 8 frames per second at 6.8 megapixels
  • Viewfinder mask, while in high speed capture mode hides the part of the frame that won't get captured (since it's only taking 6.8 megapixel images)
  • 2.5 inch LCD with 170 degree viewing angle and 230K pixels
  • 11 area autofocus with 9 cross type AF sensors
  • 37ms shutter release time
  • Image Overlay feature allows you to merge several RAW files into one file
  • Multiple Exposure function creates one image from up to 10 images
  • EN-EL4a lithium ion battery is good for 3400 shots
