Sigma to assume ownership of Foveon
Camera and lens manufacturer Sigma announced this week that it was acquiring the entirety of sensor manufacturer Foveon, Inc.
Foveon, maker of the unique three-layer X3 imager, has had a close relationship with Sigma for nearly a decade. Most recently, the firm supplied sensors for Sigma's current SD14 DSLR and DP1 large-sensor compact camera, and has been slated to provide technology for the forthcoming SD15 and DP2 models as well.

In an official statement on Tuesday, Sigma noted that the acquisition makes good business sense, providing better integration of sensor and camera body development going forward.
The complete press release concerning the acquisition is available on Foveon's website.
