Kodak Easyshare P712 Digital Camera Announced
Kodak has announced a new camera in their "performance" P line. The Kodak Easyshare P712 features a 7.1 megapixel sensor, an image stabilized 12x optical zoom, and a 2.5 inch LCD. Aimed squarely at people looking for a more advanced second or third camera, but not looking for a digital SLR, the P712 will be available in July for an MSRP of $499.
Kodak is also marketing the speed of the P712, claiming the fastest click-to-capture rate of any camera in its class. The click-to-capture rate of less than 1/10 of a second will let you capture those kids on the soccer field without a problem.
The 12x (36-432mm equivalent) Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon has optical image stabilization that provides an extra 2 stops of stabilization. (Your shutter speed can be two stops slower than using a camera without stabilization).
For more advance use, the P712 has a hotshoe to attach an external flash and Program Auto, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and full Manual modes available for shooting. A full complement of scene modes, multiple burst modes, in-camera panorama stitching, live histogram, 25 selectable AF points, custom white balance, and RAW/TIFF/JPEG support round out the feature set.
