Eye-Fi shows off wireless video upload technology
Whether you think Eye-Fi's wireless SD cards are the best thing since sliced bread or a decent idea that still needs some refinement, it's hard to deny that they've done something unique in the industry. The ability to upload images directly from cameras to the web or your home computer wirelessly is almost certainly the future of file transfer, and according to Eye-Fi, you may soon be able to the same thing with videos.
Eye-Fi is previewing a new wireless transfer technology this week at CES that allows users to upload videos straight from their camera to YouTube via a Wi-Fi network.
"We're aiming to do for video what we've already done for photos: provide the easiest, simplest way to save and share your digital memories," said Eye-Fi CEO Jeff Holove in a statement this morning.
It's not clear when the concept technology that Eye-Fi is demoing might become a retail reality, but with digital still cameras taking better video all the time, it seems likely that this idea will only grow in relevance going forward.
