Default New Fujifilm FinePix A220, A170, and J38 update style and budget-oriented lines

Fujifilm has announced a new batch of entry-level digital compacts designed for the budget and style-conscious photographer. The Fujifilm FinePix A220 and FinePix A170 join the entry-level A line, while the FinePix J38 offers a few more features for a little bit more money. All of these cameras will debut with sub-$130 price tags.

The user-friendly Fujifilm A line is expanded by the addition of the FinePix A220 and FinePix A170, a pair of digital compacts that Fuji hopes will make good upgrade options for owners of older cameras.

The 10 megapixel A170 and 12 megapixel A220 will both feature Auto Scene Recognition modes, panoramic shooting, and face detection technology. They’ve also been outfitted with the same 3x zoom Fujinon lens.

Other shared features include:

  • A 2.7 inch, 230,000-dot LCD
  • Movie recording with sound at 640x480 resolution and 30fps
  • Fujifilm’s digital Picture Stabilization system
  • AA battery compatibility

The FinePix A170 will become available at the end of July with a rock-bottom price tag of $89.95. Look for the FinePix A220 a bit later on in mid-August for $99.95.

Fujifilm FinePix J38 ups the megapixel ante, priced competitively
The FinePix J38 joins the slim, budget-friendly J series as a light update to the FinePix J20, introduced at this year’s PMA. Fujifilm has decided to keep fighting the megapixel fight by equipping the J38 with a 12.0 megapixel, 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor, the same size as the sensor on board the 10.0 megapixel J20.

The FinePix J38 will add an extra boost in low-light sensitivity shooting by offering an ISO 3200 setting at 3.0 megapixel resolution.

Other features on-board the FinePix J38 will include:

  • 3x Fujinon lens (32-96mm equivalent)
  • A 2.7 inch, 230,000-dot LCD
  • Auto Scene Recognition mode
  • Face Detection with red-eye removal
  • Movie recording with sound at 640x480 and 30 fps

The FinePix J38 will make its debut at the end of August 2009 with an MSRP of $129.95.
