Default A540 Won't Hold Charge

Suddenly my trusty Powershot A540's batteries won't hold a charge. When I replaced the rechargables with new Alkalines, they too soon lost their charge.
Is this a problem with older Powershots?

Alkaline batteries don't work well with the Powershot A cameras. Use either rechargeable NiMH batteries or AA lithiums.

AA rechargeables have a nasty habit of not having a great lifespan. And chargers can have a serious effect on lifespan.

Find some Sanyo Eneloops or Thomas Distributing Imedions and get a GOOD charger. That should solve your problem.

Just to chip in, on my "pre EOS" A610 the AA rechargeable batteries are still in good shape 3 year on
Mind you they are run on an expensive charger that has some electronics though...

On a side note - AA rechargeable batteries should (if they are powerful) allow for a few more pictures than normal batteries.
(for the A610 - 1600mAh each rechargeable battery)

If the charge is lost very quickly I'd say its a fault somewhere.

If the batteries get warm then this is a sign that they are discharged quickly.
