Default Please help.need digital camera to take pics of kids

Hello,

I am trying to buy a digital camera to take pics of the kids. multiple/action shots, outside/ indoor etc. I have a 21month old girl and a 7 month old boy (yeah busy mom).
I need something not too big, not too expensive (in the $100 to $180) price range.

Budget
* 100$ to $200 (or little more) not too pricy having two small kids in day care and in pampers is not cheap lol...

Size
* Not too big or too small

Features
How many megapixels will suffice for you?
8 or 10 maybe, i dont know if it makes a big difference

* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x)
Standard to ultra

* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)
Images should be of good quality: 8-10

*Do you care for manual exposure modes (shutter priority, aperture priority, manual)?
Dont know what that is. help

General Usage

* What will you generally use the camera for?
I need to use camera to take photos of kids doing all sort of stuff, video, on trips to zoo, aqaurium etc..
I want shutter lag to be as short as possible to take spontaneous snapshots.
great zoom for far and close pics

* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
normal prints to 8 by 10

*Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
Yes (group photos, parties)

*Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
yes as time goes by

*Miscellaneous
Are there particular brands you like or hate?
something good and reasonable price

*Are there particular models you already have in mind?
I am hearing alot about cannon

Questions about camera selection are supposed to be posted on the Which Camera Should I Buy forum, not here in the News forum. Anyways, that is a lot of requirements for a modest price camera. The Canon A2100 IS may be as close as you can come -

Canon makes two very good compact ultrazooms that will fit in a pocket (large) or a purse, the SX200is and the SX120is. The SX120is is at the high end of your price range but the SX200is exceeds it by a substantial amount. The SX120is is a fine camera with a long zoom lens and very quick operation except that it has a very slow flash recharge time. That's because it runs on 2 AA batteries rather than a rechargeable lithium ion battery.

For about $230-240 you could choose from several very fine long zoom cameras that use quick-recharging lithium ion batteries, such as the Panasonic ZS1, Panasonic ZR1, Sony DSC H20 and Fuji F70EXR (or F72EXR sold by Best Buy - same thing).
