Default Sanyo Xacti C6 and Xacti C40 Digital Media Cameras Announced

Sanyo has announced two new digital media cameras, the Xacti C6 and the Xacti C40.  The C6 is the "world's thinnest, smallest, and lightest digital video camera."  The C40 is an affordable camera that can capture 4 megapixel images and TV-quality video.  Both cameras will be available in January of 2006.  The C6 will have an MSRP of $699 and the C40 will run at $399.

With its distinctive form factor that allows easy one-handed operation, the 6 megapixel C6 is an upgrade to the 5 megapixel C5.  Weighing only 5.6 ounces (with battery and SD card), and measuring only 0.9 inches x 2.7 inches x 4.2 inches, the camera is very compact.

The camera provides image stabilization to minimize hand shake and can playback at up to 60 frames per second.  You can capture still images at the same time as shooting video.  Images and video are stored to SD memory cards (not included) in JPEG and MPEG-4 format, respectively.  Stereo audio is stored in AAC format.  With a 1 GB SD card, you can shoot up to 1 hour of 30 fps video in the "TV-HQ" mode.

The camera also sports a 5.8x optical zoom, a 2 inch TFT LCD, red-eye reduction, a Super Macro that lets you shoot as close as 1 cm, and it comes with a remote.  The camera uses a lithium-ion rechargeable battery.

The C40 is a more affordable option to the C6.  With a 4 megapixel sensor and a slightly larger size ( 2.7 x 4.2 x 1.3 inches and 6.1 ounces), it still offers the one handed ease of use.   Besides the capture resolution and the size, the C40 is more or less the same as the C6.  It offers the same 5.8x optical zoom, a slightly smaller 1.8 inch LCD, same capture specs, etc.
