Have read the manual about this but still a bit confused about a few things. One must press both buttons together? Is there another way to reduce camera shake? I take mostly pics of birds outside of my windows and for the most part keep the setting on auto. Thanks for any help! Beth

Although Canon's user guide doesn't actually come out and say it, I'm sure that when the SX10is is in Auto mode image stabilization is automatically set for continuous optical image stabilization. To check this out put your camera in Auto mode and scroll down the menu. If the entry for image stabilization is grayed out it's already in effect. If not you'll have to set it yourself.

If you decide to shoot in Program mode or Manual mode, image stabilization won't automatically be in effect. To set it yourself go to the menu, scroll to Image Stabilization and set it to "continuous" or "shoot only".
