I am about to purchase the Canon Digital Rebel XT and have heard that the standard lense that comes with it is not that good. I am a novice and will mainly be using the camera when I travel and for outdoor shots. I am looking for a good, but not too expensive all purpose lense for everyday use. I am also considering getting a zoom lense as well if I can afford it. Can you all please recommend what type I should get? Like I said before I am a novice and really have no idea what I should get so I need specific recommendations.

    Thanks in advance!

For outdoors and not too much money I've been very happy with my Sigma 18-200mm lens I have for the Nikon D50. Sigma makes this lens for your Rebel as well. It gives you a pretty good range and the performance has been very pleasing.

I purchased mine from www.sigma4less.com and was satisfied with the overall service. It was cheaper with the additional 7year Mack warranty for the same or less than a lot of other sites Adorama B&H

for your camera and I have reviews and pictures from when I was trying to decide what to get.
