The Canon Powershot ELPH 300 HS (IXUS 220 HS) is one of several new compact digital cameras recently released by Canon with a new naming convention - "Powershot ELPH xxx HS" rather than "Powershot SDxxx IS." The ELPH 300 HS is the newest model of the line of compact cameras whose previous version was the SD1400 IS, a fine camera that I reviewed for this website (the earlier versions of the camera, the SD940 IS and SD780 IS, were also reviewed by this website). However, the ELPH 300 HS improves upon the SD1400 IS in several significant ways.

I took a look on YouTube to see if anybody had posted any videos from this camera. There were a few submissions. The camera does appear to take nice videos, crisp, clear and natural color. There was stereo sound on the postings but at this time I cannot determine how good the stereo sound quality and imaging is till I burn a dvd-r and examine it on my systems.

Sharpening is a little heavy. But otherwise, that is some seriously nice IQ! The Empire has struck back ....

I love the look of this new camera, especially in black.

    As for the cons -

Poorly attached port cover - Canon cameras always get this complaint, I've never had a problem with them in a decade of using a dozen compact Canons.

Flash inconveniently located - I am worried about this one. Although I imagine the shadow in the lower corner is only a problem when shooting with the flash very close to the subject.

Occasional overexposure - looks like I'll need to permanently set the camera to -1/3 exposure just like my SD1000, SD700 and S5.

    Thanks for the review. :)

    You're welcome.

It was a pleasure using this little camera - I hated to send it back.

It sure is a nice little camera...but someone told me the lens bezel is easy to dent. Did you notice anything like this? :)

No, but I didn't make any attempt to dent the bezel.:)

I have two camera one a sony and the other a casio and just about all the pictures that I take come out blurry, even if I take a picture of people and if they make a move it is always blurry. any help would be appreciated
