Should I purchase the Olympus E500 here in aust $799 17.5 to 45 mm lens or wait for the E410 $1299 with 14 to 42 mm lens. I have a canon Eos kit with 24, 35, 50 and 200 prime lenses. The olympus would be used as a second kit When canon make something like the 5d for around $2000

I'd go with the E-500. The E-410 is really aimed at the beginning SLR user and doesn't have "dedicated" buttons to quickly change settings. The E-500 provides more options for tweaking the image processing as well.

Brought the E500 as a superceeded model with the following; 14 to 45 and 40 to 150 zoom lenses for $669 AUD. I am very happy with the purchase ans the results are great. It seems to be an under rated camera.

I'd agree that the E-500 is often underrated. Part of the problem is the cost of future lenses. One reason for the higher cost is because the four-thirds system is more optically demanding, therefore, the lenses have to be better.
