I recently purchased a new Olympus Stylus 820. However, it felt short of expectation - pictures taken were absolutely disappointing, even with SHQ.

    (i) I understand that DPI doesn't mean much to picture quality, however, the DPI of the photos taken using Stylus 820 is only poor 72DPI. My previous photo taken using Nikon Coolpix 4300 gives me 300DPI & I am very pleased with the outcome. Is there any way I can increase the DPI of my Stylus 820?

(ii) What is the difference between Fine Zoom & Digital Zoom? Do I need to tweak the settings to enhance picture quality?

(iii) ISO settings is not within control during night shots - resulting in poor quality using SCN function. Please advise.

    Thanking everyone in advance. Regards.

Digital zoom degrades the picture and should normally not be used, unless absolutely necessary to get the shot.

To get better quality during night shots you need to widen the aperture and/or raise the ISO and/or decrease the shutter speed (which may require a tripod). If your camera won't let you do these things, you're out of luck.

How are you determining the DPI of your photos?

The PPI value for most, if not all digital cameras is 72.

You do not have to worry about image quality being affected by this value.
