My parents live in Texas, and I live in Minneapolis. I would like to find a site where I can upload pics of the kids for them to see. Has anyopne used any online servoces for hosting pics that others can log into? What are your experiences?

We use Shutterfly to order prints, they also offer the ability to share online, but we haven't done it personally. We've been impressed with their service overall.

Some family members have used Ofoto (so I've only been on the viewing end, not setting up the sharing).

If you're more technical and run your own server (or you pay another hosting provider for a personal site), I have also used Gallery and been very pleased.

Picasa (which I just downloaded from Google last night) has some sharing features, so I'll be trying those out in the future.

OH how pretty, I've been wanting to see photos of brian or neil or d-roc or abaxter or adama though. http://www.villagephotos.com/ is also good for hosting photos.

I am pretty pleased with Ofoto as I was introduced to that after a cruise a few years ago. I also like their print options for those who dont like the digital variety.

I like Shutterfly, I've been using that almost exclusively to both post photos for friends/family to see, and to get prints of my digital photos.

They recently introduced Collections so I can now effectively just have a site

like http://fireflys98.shutterfly.com (my site only currently containing one set of pictures).

if u just want ur folks to see some pics, nothing beats Yahoo photos (http://photos.yahoo.com). if u have a yahoo account, u already are a member. its free, unlimited space for ever.

some cons: it resizes photos to a certain fixed size (they still save ur original sizes on their servers incase u want to print-u can collect these at ur local Target stores!!). not too much customization.

if u want more customization, try www.myphotoalbum.com- also free and unlimited...u just have to make a few print purchases to keep ur account ative. For $15/year, u can get tons more cust than u wud get with a free account....

u can get an URL like http://mike.myphotoalbum.com

shutterfly URLs are limited to 2 only I believe.

What do you mean by limited to 2? I'm not sure I understand.

The first limitation I've found, is it only let me put 250 photos in one album on the collection (so if you have more than 250 photos you have to make it two albums on the collection)

By 2, I mean u can get only 2 unique URLs...

one was http://fireflys98.shutterfly.com and u can make one more...each one can hold 250 photos max like u said. So, U can post 2 events and such...what if u had to post more pics...u might have to delete one of these URLs and make a new one. U will lose these pics which u've already uploaded.

But if u use yahoo or myphotoalbum...u get one main URL to which u can direct all ur friends. like

    http://photos.yahoo.com/<ur yahoo id> or http://<ur myphotoalbum ID>.myphotoalbum.com

Under these URLs, u can have unlimited folders for different events that u want to share fotos for and each is not limited to 250 fotos!!

I hope that helps! Its more easy to show than tell!! I hope I did my best!

Send me a PM and I will send u a link to my photos page. I do not want to post personal fotos websites here!
