The photographs I take are very overexposed (white) even in 'Auto' mode. Have I mistakingly altered a setting I shouldn't have ?
    Any ideas?

You camera has an exposure compensation control, which is probably set maximum brightness. It needs to be reset to the middle setting.

Thanks Andy for your reply. The exposure compensation meter is set to normal.
This problem only seems to occur when taking photo's in daylight. With the flash the results are normal.

It sounds like a problem with your camera's auto metering system. The cost of repair will probably exceed the value of the camera.
