Has there been any news recently about the Sigma DP1 large-sensor rangefinder camera? I haven't heard anything recently, and it was supposed to be out by now

There hasn't been anything definitive. Through the grapevine, I've heard a story where some person (in Europe probably) called Sigma and they were told that it would come out maybe by the end of the year or that it could be next year.

While the Foveon sensor may be larger, the SLR equipped with the same sensor, the SD14, is getting pretty mixed reviews.

That DP1 is definitely bordering on "vaporware". Since they announced it last fall at Photokina, specs have changed, but there's never been any word on pricing or availability.

You mention the SD14 getting mixed reviews, so I go to look, but alas there is no review of that camera on this lovely site ;)

The clock began ticking today for photographers who salivate over technological elan. Amazon Prime has announced it's taking pre-orders for Sigma Corporation's 14-megapixel super compact digital camera based on Foveon X3 technology. While some of the unit's features are less than impressive--no optical zoom, top ISO of 800--its cutting edge sensor that can detect three colors at a pixel compared to one in a typical DSC is creating a buzz among shutterbugs susceptible to technolust. The snapper can be pre-ordered for $799 and is expected to be shipped March 25, according to Amazon.

I was wondering the same thing. I'd love to hear user impressions if anyone's got 'em.
