Red face What is the best camera with a viewfinder?

    Hi, everyone.

I must have a viewfinder and they are hard to find. I am looking for a simple to use digital camera with at least some zoom, not extreme, and don't care how many mega pixels. I am new and am mostly shooting in a dark night club with bands on stage. So I need to see my friends in the near dark as well as get good band shots. I had an Olympus C4000 zoom and it was great. But it was stolen. I just want great clear flash shots and reasonably fast focus in low light as well as standard conditions. Thank you for your help. I have spoken to many camera shops and they each say something different. I bought a Nikon CoolPIX P100 but it would not focus was very wobbly in viewfinder and the color was off. Thank you for any advice.

Cool Re: What is the best camera with a viewfinder?

No budget? All DSLR cameras have an optical viewfinder, do well in low light. If you're a patient bargain hunter, you may find refurbs as low as $350. Plenty of new ones to choose from around $500.

Thank you but I don't understand DSLR yet. Really don't know anything about them, just regular digital with standard zoom. That's all I have had. Kind of scared to go up to DSLR without someone standing by to help when I get stuck. Anything up to $450 will do.

I agree with Kelly that a DSLR will meet your needs better than a point and shoot camera like the Nikon P100. The Sony A230 is a fairly simple DSLR and can be bought, with a lens, for under $400.

If you must have a non-DSLR, your Nikon P100 is probably as good a camera with a viewfinder and decent low light shooting as you're going to find. If you're willing to forgo the viewfinder the Fuji F70EXR and F80EXR have a fairly long zoom and are pretty good in low light - probably better than your Nikon. The two Fuji cameras are within your budget.

Leave a DSLR in its Auto and Scene settings and you should not get stuck. These modes work just the same on a DSLR as they do on a compact. If you like research, here are links to more threads on getting into the DSLR game -

If you're referring to pocket-sized cameras the answer is, unfortunately, no. Viewfinders are found only in larger cameras or in the $500 Canon G11.
