Im close to getting the 18-200 vr ii lens but need some help before i make the plung. seen it for sub £420 @ www.ukcamerastore.co.uk but wonderin whether its goin to knock the socks off my 28-135.

Excellent thread, very helpful reviews, recommendations and links. I was wondering if you have had a chance to try out the new Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS lens? It has been for sale outside the US for a while but reviews are hard to find. It is scheduled to be released here in the US in May 2008 with a retail price of ~$300. That would basically position it right next to the Sigma 70-300 mm APO (which is $100 cheaper, but has no IS). Any opinions on how the IQ of this Canon compares to the IQ of the Sigma? Is the IQ as impressive as that of the 18-55mm IS? Sounds like the IS and low price tag make this new Canon the ideal budget telephoto zoom lens for the casual photographer who does not always carry a tripod and can't afford to step up to the 70-200mmL or 70-300mm IS.
