Canon vs. Canon
Hello. New to this site. I have a few fine cameras, but want a very good compact digital. I have only 2 choices available to me: the Canon G12 & G15. Have read up on both, and other than the obvious differences, I'm still leaning to the G 12. The articulated screen doesn't matter, nor cost, but the looks, layout, size, controls, etc. seem to matter to me. Could u just please provide me with ur personal opinions and experiences. I'm probably going with the G 12, mostly because of the larger size and the better sensor (or have heard this). Thanks, LWL

Re: Canon vs. Canon
The G15 is better in most ways. It has higher resolution (12mp vs 10mp), a faster lens (wider aperture), lighter in weight and thinner, faster performance (thanks to its CMOS sensor), higher resolution LCD, larger LCD, higher resolution movie mode and a dedicated movie button on the rear of the camera.
The G12 has one big plus - its fully articulated LCD. But the LCD is smaller and lower resolution than the LCD of the G15.
As far as image quality goes, both are very good. The G15 uses more noise reduction at higher ISO's so the G12's images look sharper at a given high ISO (such as 800 ISO). However, since the G15 has a faster lens, it can get good low light shots at lower ISO's than the G12.
Unless you're a huge fan of the G12's articulated screen or you can get a big discount on it, the G15 is the preferred camera. My Gear:

Re: Canon vs. Canon
I share your preference for the design of the G12 body. But the faster lens in the G15 is a serious advantage for action subjects or low light. Given the difference in lenses, the price difference had better be a big one!
