Default Please help me select a DSLR

    * What budget have you allocated for buying this camera? Please be as specific as possible.
500-700 usd with kit lens + faster lens like 50mm/80mm 1.8

    * What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you?
One that doesn't break my neck while am carrying it :P

How many megapixels will suffice for you?
I'm not sure if MP is the real-thing as I've read online that the more the MP doesn't mean that the image/video would be good. I'm not so sure about MP.

    * What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x)
Not sure about it as well.

    * How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)
    10 I guess....

Do you care for manual exposure modes (shutter priority, aperture priority, manual)?
I guess so...isn't this the whole point of switching to a DSLR?

    General Usage
    * What will you generally use the camera for?
Taking pictures and videos of my baby girl

    * Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
    I don't think so...

Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?

Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
    Not really

Are there particular brands you like or hate?

Are there particular models you already have in mind?
Nikon D3200, D5100 . Canon 600D (600D is more expensive so am trying to avoid it)

(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)
If I can take pictures remotely that would be a plus point + if it has a rotating LCD as well (the Nikon models that I've shortlisted do not have both the features )

The Nikon D3200 if you like Nikon, the Canon 600D if you like Canon. They are both very good. The Nikon has a slightly larger sensor and more megapixels. The Canon has a fully articulated LCD. They have both been reviewed here at Digital Camera Review:Nikon D3200 Review: A Mega Boost in Resolution Canon EOS Rebel T3i Review

Both can be operated with a wireless remote.

A DSLR may be overkill here, unless you happen to be keen on learning the technical side of photography. Especially for video, a smaller camera can be easier to work with. Links for more info on the different types of cameras -
